What is Gro Solar?

Offers Alternative Power Solutions in Cape Town, South Africa

Gro Solar has developed a funding model which offers clients the opportunity to receive either discounted sustainable energy or an alternative power backup solution at no cost to the client. The only requirement for Gro Solar is the use of your unutilized roof space and an agreement to sell the power generated by the Solar Facility back to your building.

The Benefits of using Gro Solar.

Save monthly on electricity bills or have a backup power solution in the event of load-shedding.

Zero Cost

Gro Solar is responsible for the installation and commissioning of the fully integrated solar panelling system at no cost to our clients.

Discounted Electricity

We harness the electricity and sell it back to you at a discount of 7.5% off regulated electricity tariff or offer an alternative backup solution.

No Structural Changes

We have developed a system that is suitable for flat roofs without impacting on structure or waterproofing. For sloped roofs we will develop an appropriate system in conjunction with our suppliers and engineers.

Free Feasibility Study

We come and assess your building for free.

25-Year Lifespan

Solar Panels have a lifespan of approximately 25 years.

No Maintenance

We then maintain the solar panels at our expense for the duration of their lifespan.

Holistic Solution

Gro Solar will take care of everything, from the planning, council approvals, implementation, and commissioning of the Solar Facility fully integrated into your existing electrical infrastructure.

Alternative Power Generation and Back-up

The Solar Facility will harness energy during sunshine hours which will provide power during load-shedding in addition to a back-up solution dependant on the needs of the client

Our Core Objectives.

Gro Solar is responsible for the installation and commission of the full integrated solar paneling system at no cost to the client. We are responsible for the supply and installation of the fully integrated solar system which we then maintain at our expense for the duration of its lifespan of approximately 25 years.

The energy generated from our solar panel facility is harnessed and then sold to the client at a discount of 7.5% of the regulated electricity tariff to the client.

Alternatively, should the client waive the discount and agree to pay the regulated electricity tariff, then in such event, we can install a generator free of charge, the size of which will depend on the outcome of the feasibility of the facility to operate the various services in the building and to service the building during load shedding (the maintenance, diesel and operating costs of the generator is for the cost of the client, but the upfront capital expenditure is borne by us).

In addition to offering the installation of smart metering solutions (water and electricity), our solar panelling system is designed in a way which doesn’t impact on the structure nor the waterproofing of the building and  is suitable for flat roofs

The
Process

The Installation of our solar panels

Upon installation of the Solar infrastructure and the generator, the following shall occur:

1. The solar facility supplies electricity during sunshine hours.

2. During loadshedding the solar facility continues to generate and supply energy thereby saving on the operating and diesel costs of the generator, supplementing the demand.

How to be applicable for a Free Feasibility Study:

All that we require to perform the feasibility study for a Solar Facility for your Sectional Title Scheme is the following:

  1. A high-level overview of the current electrical infrastructure of the building, including whether each unit has a prepaid meter and a bulk supply into the building or whether each unit has a separate account with The City of Cape Town, be it prepaid or post-paid (this will relate predominantly to older buildings).
  2. Your latest municipal account, which informs the proxy letter to allow us to obtain the electrical consumption information directly from The City of Cape Town.
